Remembering George A. Romero by Neil Marshall

If it wasn’t for George Romero we wouldn’t have “The Walking Dead,” Shaun of the Dead, World War Z, or countless other twists and turns on the zombie genre.

But George Romero gave us a lot more than just the living dead. He gave us a black leading man in the wake of the civil rights movement, and several strong female protagonists way ahead of the curve. George was never less than groundbreaking.

If I had to choose one movie of his that inspired me the most, I’d probably go with Day of the Dead. It’s unremitting darkness tapped into something within me. I couldn’t help but admire the conviction of a film-maker willing to bleed away every last drop of hope, in a saga that was already bleak as fuck . Talk about ballsy.

George Romero had testicles as big as his spectacles!
