Jake Busey Has a Familial Relationship With Shane Black’s The Predator

Filming wrapped on Shane Black’s The Predator recently and now it’s time to start waiting until the film’s 2018 summer release date. However, that doesn’t mean that little tidbits of interesting news won’t pop up now and again. For example, the podcast The Red Booth recently had on their show Jake Busey as a guest. It was here that Busey let loose the news that his role in Black’s reboot/sequel is that of the son of Predator 2‘s Peter Keyes, who was played by Busey’s own father, Gary Busey!
Jake tells The Red Booth, “[Shane] called me and he said ‘Hey, you wanna do this movie? We don’t have money for you but it’ll be a fun thing to come play and be your father’s son.’ And so as much as I have followed in my Dad’s footsteps career-wise, this is like really following in his footsteps by playing a character who is the son of the character he played.”
Gary Busey played the smarmy government agent Peter Keyes, who was the head of OWLF, whose mission was to capture a Predator alive for research purposes. He was sliced in half by the Predator, so we might be seeing some personal issues at play here with his son entering the fray!
The Predator stars Thomas Jane, Edward James Olmos, Sterling K. Brown, Trevante Rhodes, Boyd Holbrook, Jacob Tremblay, Olivia Munn, Alfie Allen, Yvonne Strahovski, Augusto Aguilera, and Keegan-Michael Key.
Shane Black is directing from a script by Fred Dekker. John Davis, Joel Silver, and Lawrence Gordon — who produced the original — are producing. The Predator comes out August 3rd, 2018.
