Serial killer story Snowtown, which we provided a trailer and some artwork for earlier this month, has officially joined the Critics Week (la Semaine de la Critique) lineup at this year’s Cannes Film Festival.
Much like Slamdance runs parallel to Sundance, la Semaine de la Critique (May 12-20, 2011) is a parallel section of the Cannes Film Festival with a tradition of discovering new talents. Conceived by the French Union of Film Critics in 1962, the objective of la Semaine de la Critique has been to showcase first and second feature films by directors from all over the world.
Snowtown is directed by Justin Kurzel and stars Lucas Pittaway, Daniel Henshall, and Louise Harris. The flick will be arriving in Australia on May 19th from Madman Entertainment.
Synopsis:
Jamie, 16, lives with his mother in a shady neighborhood where violence, unemployment and sexual abuse creep in. All of this changes when John Bunting walks into their lives.
He is charismatic, fascinating, and Jamie loves him like the dad he’s never known. Completely under Bunting’s spell, it will take Jamie time to understand that his mentor is the most dangerous serial killer Australia has ever known…
