It’s been announced that Sony Pictures has picked up the rights to adapt Drew Daywalt’s best-selling children’s book The Day the Crayons Quit, according to Deadline. The film, which is said to be a live-action/animation hybrid, will be produced by 21 Laps’ Shawn Levy (“Stranger Things”) and Dan Cohen.

The book’s synopsis reads:
Poor Duncan just wants to color. But when he opens his box of crayons, he finds only letters, all saying the same thing: His crayons have had enough! They quit! Beige Crayon is tired of playing second fiddle to Brown Crayon. Black wants to be used for more than just outlining. Blue needs a break from coloring all those bodies of water. And Orange and Yellow are no longer speaking—each believes he is the true color of the sun.

Daywalt is known to the horror community for his stellar horror shorts, including the viral hit “Bedfellows”, which I’ve included below.

The Day the Crayons Quit has been nothing short of a massive success for Daywalt. It sold millions of copies and its sequel, The Day the Crayons Came Home, has sold in excess of 3 million copies.
