MaggieWake up, Maggie, I think I got something to say to you. It’s late September, and you’ve already eaten half the school. I know I keep you amused, but I feel I’m being used. Oh, Maggie, I couldn’t have died anymore. You lured me away from home just to save you from eating alone. You ate my heart and that’s what really hurt.

That song will NEVER be the same. Moving on … Deadline is reporting that Timur Bekmambetov has won a spec auction for Maggie, a screenplay that sparked a spirited battle today with six bidders. Bekmambetov will produce a film based on the script by John Scott 3, and visual effects maven Henry Hobson is set to direct. Hobson was also just hired by Sony to direct its campaign for the PlayStation 3 series Resistance.

Maggie is a 16-year-old girl from a town in middle America who becomes infected by a zombie. Much the way that Danny Boyle changed the lumbering zombie stereotype by speeding up the undead in 28 Days Later, Maggie changes the lightning quick infection period evident in most zombie films, where victims become zombies in minutes. It will take six months for Maggie to turn, and the film tracks the transformation as she stays with her family.
