Exclusive: The Great Discord Make Looney Tunes Dark in The Red Rabbit

Just over a month ago, I wrote a post where I spoke about my love of Sweden’s The Great Discord, the self-proclaimed “progressive death pop” group that released 2015’s astonishing album Duende (trust me and go listen to it if you haven’t).
Since then, I’ve been eagerly awaiting follow-up full-length release, which was recently announced in the form of The Rabbit Hole. Coming out September 8th via The Sign Records (pre-order here), the album is the band’s take on Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland, a foundation upon which many incredible stories have been told. The band already released the phenomenal single “Darkest Day” and today we’re thrilled to premiere the video for “The Red Rabbit”, the sixth track from The Rabbit Hole.
Directed by Joakim Sjöholm, the video opens and closes with direct nods to “Looney Tunes” while the imagery between those bookends is nothing short of nightmarish. Featuring a demented and perverse tea party, several rabbit outfits, and more than a few carrots, this video is as surreal as Carroll’s original story.
While “Darkest Day” felt epic and had moments of wondrous beauty, “The Rabbit Hole” is mean, ugly, and strangely sinister. If The Great Discord is going to tell their own version of Alice in Wonderland, these two songs prove that not are they only willing to take such an iconic subject matter head on but that they will use it to create something that’s unique unto themselves and is 100% memorable.
