These Hand-Painted Thai Horror Posters Are Astonishing

Movie posters have been, for a while, rather generic to look at the majority of the time. But over the past few years, there’s been a renaissance of stunning posters that showcase an artist’s talent at creating a piece of, well… art. This isn’t saying that we should ignore the masterpieces that were created for the first several decades of cinema. Some of those posters are nothing short of gorgeous.

These days, galleries like Mondo and Bottleneck Gallery are fostering incredible designs from supremely talented artists from around the world. Folks like Gary Pullin, Becky Cloonan, Florian Bertmer, and Drew Struzan, to name a few, are now household names in the film community thanks to their imagination. Someone that should be added to that list is Thailand’s Tongdee Panumas, who, during a three-decade stint that began in the 70’s, painted intricately detailed posters such as the ones you’ll find below.

The work that is put into them cannot be denied, and the masterful use of color and depth is, as the headline states, astonishing. You bet your ass I’d be proud to hang any one of these in my home.

Cheers to Dangerous Minds and Film on Paper.
