Indie Horror Month: Eric England’s Top Five Independent Horror Shorts
Yesterday we heard from writer/director Eric England, who gave us a list of his five favorite independent horror features. Today we take a look at the up-and-coming indie director’s favorite genre shorts. Read on to see what short films have caught his eye over the years!
1. EL CICLO
This is one of my favorite shorts by a buddy of mine – and a very talented director – Victor Garcia. It’s exactly what a good short film should be: tight, effective, and well executed.
2. BEDFELLOWS
Who says scares have to take time? The first time I saw this short, I got goosebumps. I still love to pull it up and give my friends an unsuspecting scare. Not only that, but it’s directed by Drew Daywalt, who has a knack for little horrors.
3. EEL GIRL
This short gets me. Great effects. A naked girl. And a cool monster! It’s sci-fi at its best!

4. INVENTORY
I stumbled across this one online a while back. I thought it was really well executed, especially for a shot-in-45-minutes (and edited in three hours) film. Great little concept. A little Perfect Getawayish with the flashbacks, but at the end it wraps up nicely.

5. HALLOWEEN BEFORE CHRISTMAS
I have a soft spot for foreign films. The stories are always a little out there and the directors always put the camera in the craziest places. This short is visually interesting, and who doesn’t love a creepy little clown kid?
