Meet Two of Starz’s American Gods

Earlier today we got a look at the opening title sequence of “American Gods,” and now we’re back with two featurettes released by Starz that introduce us to Shadow Moon and Mr. Wednesday.
First up is Shadow, played by Ricky Whittle, who is released from prison to a life turned upside down — no wife, no job, and no bearings.
Next is Mr. Wednesday, played by Ian McShane. He’s a crafty and endlessly charismatic conman who is full of perverse wisdom, curious magic, and grand plans to unite the Old Gods in a battle for power against the New Gods.

“American Gods” is an adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s acclaimed contemporary fantasy novel of the same name, which has been translated into over 30 languages and earned numerous accolades including Hugo, Nebula, and Bram Stoker Awards for Best Novel. The plot posits a war brewing between old and new gods: the traditional gods of mythological roots from around the world steadily losing believers to an upstart pantheon of gods reflecting society’s modern love of money, technology, media, celebrity, and drugs.
“American Gods” is produced by FremantleMedia North America. Bryan Fuller (“Hannibal,” “Pushing Daisies,” “Heroes”) and Michael Green (“The River,” “Kings,” “Heroes”) are writers and showrunners. David Slade (“Hannibal,” The Twilight Saga: Eclipse) is directing the pilot and additional episodes.
Synopsis:
When Shadow Moon is released from prison, he meets the mysterious Mr. Wednesday, and a storm begins to brew. Little does Shadow know this storm will change the course of his entire life. Left adrift by the recent, tragic death of his wife and suddenly hired as Mr. Wednesday’s bodyguard, Shadow finds himself in the center of a world that he struggles to understand. It’s a world where magic is real, where the Old Gods fear both irrelevance and the growing power of the New Gods, like Technology and Media. Mr. Wednesday seeks to build a coalition of Old Gods to defend their existence in this new America and reclaim some of the influence that they’ve lost. As Shadow travels across the country with Mr. Wednesday, he struggles to accept this new reality and his place in it.
