Earth Is Ours No More as Horizon Zero Dawn Launches on PS4

Well, here we are. After it entered development all the way back in 2011, and after it was announced all the way back in 2015, the AAA masterpiece (that’s not just my opinion, read the early reviews) Horizon Zero Dawn will finally launch on PS4 on Tuesday, 28 February, and not a moment too soon. Its release date places it directly into the wrestling ring with one of the other biggest games of the year, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, so it’s sure gonna be interesting to see who comes out on top.

Over the last few days, the PlayStation YouTube channel released a ton of new trailers to promote the game, and you can admire some of the best ones below.

And whilst the ESRB Teen rating is a tad disappointing to those of us accustomed to the brutality of developer Guerrilla Games’ Killzone series, I’ll let it pass because those huge robots look so utterly bad-ass. Think of this as Skyrim with monstrous giant machines littering the environment instead of dragons. Except Horizon’s open world is also so big that it makes Skyrim look like a goddamn patch of grass.

Put simply, Horizon Zero Dawn is Sony’s flagship exclusive of 2017, and will most likely signal the start of a great new series. Believe me, I have nothing but love and respect for Sony and Guerrilla for being bold enough to create a mega-budget new IP featuring a female protagonist in a world where franchises dominated by male heroes are the norm. This is a beautiful game in every sense of the word.

Horizon Zero Dawn
In a world where Machines dominate the earth and mankind lives on in primitive tribal societies, one woman sets out to find her destiny among the remnants of the ancient past. As Aloy, you must brave the Machine-infested wilderness and unearth secrets that lie buried deep within the earth. Will you embrace your calling… or pass into oblivion unsung?

Find out when Horizon Zero Dawn launches exclusively to PS4 on February 28th!
