New Show Cooks Up a Last Meal
Described as “Dinner for 5 meets Beetlejuice meets The Addams Family”, the new series “Last Meal” will launch in the Spring, and you can get all the details on this crazy new show in the following press release.
From the Press Release:
From the creative minds of Portland restaurateurs Aaron & Jessica Grimmer (The Picnic House, Barlow, High Noon), in collaboration with co-directors Courtney Eck and Jordan Firstman of Two Penguins Productions, comes LAST MEAL, an innovative digital series that is one part comedic cooking show, one part celebrity interview, and one part campy indie horror. Think “Dinner for 5 meets Beetlejuice meets The Addams Family”. Riffing off of the increasing popularity of celebrity interviews and cooking shows, LAST MEAL revels in the quirkiness of its dark humor. LAST MEAL was shot entirely on location at Blackberry Castle in Portland, OR. The trailer launches today, with the entire first season of LAST MEAL slated for digital release in the Spring of 2017.
LAST MEAL surveys the deadly dinner parties of Aaron & Jessica Grimmer. Aaron, the son of the Grim Reaper, has recently taken over the family business after his father’s retirement. With the support of Jessica, his fashion-forward, emotionally quirky spouse, Aaron infuses his father’s more traditional fatal approach with a little class and pizzazz by inviting his famous victims…ermm, “guests”…to elaborate dinner parties at their residence at Blackberry Castle. Assisted by their loyal butler (Phillip), personal chef (Casey), and resident mixologist (Tom), the Grimmers honor their unsuspecting guests with food, drink, and heartfelt conversation before creatively- if not always painlessly- helping them meet their fate.
Each episode of the first season features indie artists/musicians like comedian/actress Sabrina Jalees (Transparent, The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore, MTV Showcase), musicians Brent Knopf (El Vy, Ramona Falls) and Hutch Harris (The Thermals), and graphic novelist Nicole J. Georges (Calling Dr. Laura, Invincible Summer). The combined social media following of our first season guests is over 200,000 fans.
“LAST MEAL started with the simple idea of highlighting delicious food and delicious drinks in an innovative and engaging way, but the project really took on a life of its own,” says co-creator Jessica Grimmer. “It’s ended up being a perfect way to highlight amazing creatives, while delving into deep and meaningful conversations. We both celebrate our guests’ lives and work…and then we kill them.”

About LAST MEAL: Aaron and Jessica Grimmer are currently running the “family business”…but doing it with a “twist” or a knife as it were. Each week, Aaron, the grim reaper’s son, and his fashion forward wife, Jessica, entertain and interview remarkably talented guests before “killing” them in an absurdly campy way…all while dining and drinking some of the most beautiful and strange dishes and cocktails imaginable. Last Meal riffs off the popularity of celebrity interviews and cooking shows in a quirky, comedic indie style…all in about 9 minutes. Think “Dinner for 5” meets “Beetlejuice” meets “The Addams Family”. The first season encompasses 6 main episodes and 13 ancillary episodes featuring mixology tutorials and behind the scenes footage.
