IFC Readying its Genre Slate for December 2010/January 2011

It was way back in May when IFC Midnight acquired writer/director Antoine Blossier’s debut feature Proie (Prey), and finally, come December we’ll be able to watch it either On Demand (starting on the 1st) or in selected theatres (as of the 3rd).
The film, co-written by Blossier and Erich Vogel, stars Grégoire Colin, Bérénice Bejo, François Levantal, Joseph Malerba, Fred Ulysse, and Isabelle Renauld. It was produced by Polaris Film Finance & Production and Quasar Pictures.
Synopsis:
One night several deer hurl themselves unexpectedly against the electric fence of a farm. Seeing deep signs of biting on the animals’ bodies, the farm owners realize that a predator is roaming about the neighboring woods. Having determined to hunt it down, the farmer and his family penetrate deep into the surrounding forest. They look with bewilderment at the dying environment ravaged by a mysterious evil force. As the sun slowly sinks away, howling resounds through the forest. The hunters have become prey…
But that’s just the first of the trio of treats IFC has in store for genre fans over the coming weeks.
Also on December 3rd, both in theatres and On Demand, they’ll be bringing us In Their Sleep (or Dans ton sommeil) from directors Caroline du Potet and Eric du Potet and one of the producers behind Inside. The film stars Anne Parillaud, Arthur Dupont, Thierry Fremont, and Jean-Hugues Anglade.
Synopsis:
After the brutal death of her 18-year-old son, Sarah’s life is in pieces. Late one night her car accidentally hits Arthur, a young man the same age as her boy, who suddenly emerges out of the forest and onto the road. Wounded and frightened, he is running from a mysterious assailant, hunting him down after Arthur caught him red-handed in the act of burglary…
Sarah sympathizes with him, taking him in, only to be tracked down by the burglar whose murderous rage towards Arthur forces her to take action. Unbeknownst to Sarah, things aren’t quite the way they seem, but by the time she finally realizes, it is too late to turn back.
Lastly is Gregg Araki’s Kaboom, which generated a bit of controversy this past summer by withdrawing from the UK’s Film4 FrightFest (click here for The Alan Jones Diary, which gives both sides of the story).
Kaboom, starring Thomas Dekker, Haley Bennett, Chris Zylka, Roxane Mesquida, and Juno Temple, will be available On Demand beginning January 22nd. It’ll have a theatrical run as well in January, but the exact dates haven’t been made available yet.
Synopsis:
The latest film from iconoclastic independent filmmaker Gregg Araki, Kaboom is a hyper-stylized ”Twin Peaks” for the Coachella Generation, featuring a gorgeous young cast. A wild, witty, and sex-drenched horror-comedy thriller, Kaboom tells the story of Smith (Dekker), an ambisexual 18-year-old college freshman who stumbles upon a monstrous conspiracy in a seemingly idyllic Southern California seaside town.
Kaboom shares key touchstones of Araki’s early films, including scatological and absurd Valley-inflected dialogue, elements of campy gore, and the writer/director’s troupe of arrestingly sexy guys and girls. With his sophisticated synthesis of various experiments in tone and cinematography, Araki has reached a new level of artistic maturity.
