The Internet is a treasure trove of movie goodness if you know where to look, and our friends over at Bloody Disgusting just came upon a Poltergeist fan site that’s home to some of the original ghost/creature concepts from effects supervisor Richard Edlund.
The material was provided by Matt Knowles, a super fan of the film. Matt recently sent the site a series of rare production photographs that he purchased on eBay, and we’re all the luckier for it!

Personally speaking, I kind of love the alternate door demon as in some mad way in conjures thoughts of Julian Beck’s Reverend Kane from Poltergeist II: The Other Side, and NOTHING in the franchise was scarier than he was.
