You Want Badass? You’ve Got Badass! Behold the Badass Digest!

There’s a new site on the block ready to deal in all things badass! From Devin Faraci (formerly of CHUD.com) and Fantastic Fest guru Tim League comes BadassDigest.com!

According to Faraci, “It’s an extension of the Alamo Drafthouse experience. It’s about being a movie lover but also about having fun.

Click on the link to let the badassery begin! Good luck with the new digs, guys! We can always use some more lunacy on the Net!

Devin issued the following statement to soon to be contributing writer to the new site, Brian Collins of Bloody Disgusting and Horror Movie a Day:

“Most of what I did at CHUD was ‘news’ oriented – which usually involved linking to and repurposing news stories that originated elsewhere. I got a scoop or two in my day, but I was never as scoop oriented as Bloody is or Latino Review. Badass Digest gives me a chance to write broader and to focus on movies that I love, as opposed to writing 12 updates about THE HOBBIT every week (which isn’t to say you won’t see SOME of that stuff on Badass Digest).

But it isn’t just about movies. What’s great about Badass is that it’s about EVERYTHING I love. In the coming weeks I’m going to be writing a travel piece about a cool Western ghost town, I’ll be mounting a passionate defense of SECRET WARS II and I’ll be working with other writers to deliver some great beer and food related content.

Badass Digest isn’t just a website – it’s an extension of the Alamo Drafthouse experience. It’s about being a movie lover but also about having fun. It’s about embracing the things that we love about movies and spending less time complaining about them (although sometimes a good takedown can be just as much fun as a lovefest; that’s why one of my regular columns is MAKE IT STOP, where I write about the worst of the worst movies ever made).

I’m a huge horror fan, so there will be a lot of horror content. We’ll be inducting new folks into the Badass Hall of Fame on a weekly basis, and you should look for some very recognizable horror names to show up there. I’m also going to be doing a semi-regular feature called ENFRANCHISED, where I’ll watch a movie series from beginning to end. This will be where I finally catch up on the SAW series, which I totally abandoned after the second film.

The main crew right now is me, Roger Erik Tinch, Moises Chiullan and a rotating cast of guests from the Alamo Drafthouse programming team (look for some very cool stuff from Zack Carlson tying into his new book, DESTROY ALL MOVIES, which is the most comprehensive guide to punks in film every published). I’m happy to let the cat out of the bag that Badass is entering a content partnership with Horror Movie A Day, which I think is one of the best sites on the web, and that BC will be bringing horror content to the site on a weekly basis. What will he be writing about? Beats me, I just ask that it be somehow related to horror.

I’m excited for Badass Digest as a website but as something more. As Tim League, CEO of the Alamo Drafthouse Cinemas, starts to bring the chain out of Texas, there are a lot of cool opportunities opening up for us. Events, festivals and just good old parties – like Fantastic Fest’s annual 100 Best Kills Party – are just the tip of the proverbial iceberg. We’re going to have some fun.”

on

Last week we let you guys know that, while The CW passed on the Supernatural spin-off Wayward Sisters, they had given a fifth season to fan-favorite zombie-comedy series iZombie.

And as cool as that news was, it looks like it comes with a caveat. Yes, it looks like the upcoming fifth season of iZombie will be it’s last.

Series star Rose McIver took to Twitter to confirm the news the other day writing: “So the fifth season of iZombie will be our last. I am therefore committed and excited to make it the best one yet! Really proud to be on a show that celebrates the misfits and I pinch myself every day that I get to be a part of the iZombie world with you guys. Thank you.”

The show, which is based upon characters created by Chris Roberson and Michael Allred, and published by DC Entertainment’s Vertigo, is rumored to return during the midseason schedule. We’ll let you know when we hear more.

Wes Craven’s SWAMP THING Finally Coming to Blu-ray in the UK this September

Published

on

Although it’s certainly not considered to be one of his best films, I’ll always have a soft spot for Wes Craven’s Swamp Thing. Based on the DC Comics character, the film opened to mixed reviews when it was originally released in 1982, although it since gone on the earn a cult following, and even spawned both a sequel and a live action TV series spinoff.

88 Films will finally release Swamp Thing on Blu-ray in the UK on September 10, which will be the first time the film has been available on the format in the country. Extras will include two separate audio commentaries, one by Craven himself, and the other by critic and fan Ian Jane, and an interview with production designer Robb Wilson King. More extras will be announced closer to the date of release, although we know that the Blu-ray will come will also come with a booklet by critic Calum Waddell. The box art revealed on 88 Films’ Facebook page also promises that it will include a limited edition slipcase.

Swamp Thing starred Ray Wise as the scientist Alec Holland, with Dick Durock his titular monstrous alter ego. The supporting cast include Adrienne Barbeau, David Hess, Nicholas Worth, and Louis Jourdan. Whilst it was notably lighter in tone than most of the films that shaped Craven’s career, it’s still a film that all horror fans should watch at least once.

UK readers can pre-order their Blu-ray copy of Swamp Thing on Amazon.
