Trejo Ready for Machete to Roll
If you were Bob and/or Harvey Weinstein, would you really want to say no to Danny Trejo? Not if you knew what was good for you.
Despite the flop of Grindhouse on this side of the ocean (it’s being released as two separate films everywhere else, which I bet will be a lot more profitable and a lot less fun), Trejo recently told the folks at Rotten Tomatoes that Machete is ready to roll and indeed may go in front of cameras before Rodriguez’s next planned film, Sin City 2, in which Trejo will also have a role.
“It’s kind of amazing. I think Robert Rodriguez kind of planned it that way because he told me about ‘Machete’ five years ago,” Trejo told the site. “Robert wants to make that into a feature and I said, ‘Okay, let’s do it. I got the time.’ So it’s going to be a lot of fun.”
Obviously those of you who were smart enough to see Grindhouse recall that Machete was one of the fist faux trailers to play, telling the story of a big, badass Mexican (Trejo) who is fucked with one too many times and finally sets out to kill everyone who ever double-crossed him, which is an awfully big list of people. As we previously told you here, Machete was already being planned as a direct-to-DVD title, though now it’s sounding like it might actually be theatrical.
