Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jackie Chan, and Rutger Hauer Star In Viy 2
Based on the horror novella of the same name by Nikolai Gogol, the 2014 Russian flick Viy was a big hit financially, grossing over $39.5 million on a budget of $26 million. Director Oleg Stepchenko is finishing up the sequel with some giant star power on board.
Variety reports that Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jackie Chan, and Rutger Hauer all starred in the $48 million follow-up, which was shot in China earlier this year and is now in post-production. It’s almost like the version of The Expendables that we wanted to see but never got.
The first Viy followed explorer Jonathan Green (Jason Flemyng) as he examined creatures lurking in the forests of Transylvania, and the sequel will see him heading to China. Variety also provided the following statement regarding the plot:
Once again he sets out for a long journey full of incredible adventures that will eventually lead him to China. The cartographer will face many breathtaking discoveries, encounter bizarre creatures, meet with Chinese princesses, and confront deadly martial-arts masters and the Dragon King.
