TIFF 2010: Rare Exports of Feral Santas!

default-featured-image

One look at the outstanding trailer for Rare Exports and you know right away that this is either going to be a very unique and special movie or one that cannot possibly live up to its potential. I’m seriously crossing my fingers for latter because the idea of hunting for feral Santas in the snowy wilds of Finland is a genius level of insanity.

In the depths of the Korvatunturi mountains, 486 metres deep, lies the closest ever guarded secret of Christmas. The time has come to dig it up!

This Christmas everyone will believe in Santa Claus.

Based on award winning shorts of director Jalmari Helander that have already acquired a cult reputation in the internet.

Something to keep in mind is that in some Scandinavian lore their concept of Santa Claus started out sounding more like Halloween than Christmas. Look it up if you don’t believe me.

You can find those two shorts online now. They come highly recommended.

The feature version of Rare Exports is set to premiere at the Toronto Film Festival later this month. We’ll find out then if it can live up to the mystique of its trailer.
