Scriptwriters Network is excited to take a look at the television and film industry and discuss what it takes to turn a story into a “hot” property in Hollywood.

This intimate discussion will cover the latest trends in popular films and television shows: from teen comedies to popular vampire franchises to over-the-top action and everything in between.

Featured speakers are industry professionals — writers, directors, producers — from both sides of the independent and studio spectrum.

  • Sheri Bryant worked for The Walt Disney Company for three years as a financial analyst of Investments and Funding. She then joined Disney’s Hollywood Pictures film division and began her career as an entertainment executive. At Hollywood Pictures, she oversaw the development process of a wide range of films, and brought in new material, directors and writers.

    Sheri then served as Director of Development & Production for production and distribution company Image Organization, where she was involved in all aspects of production, from story inception through post production. During her tenure, the company made multiple films for CBS, HBO, Lifetime, and Artisan.

    Sheri also served as Executive Producer on the Sci-Fi Channel thriller “The Suit” in 2008, and was Executive Producer of Discovery Channel’s award-winning feature film “Rain” starring Susan Dey and Scott Cooper. She also produced Lions Gate’s “Arachnid” and the horror film “Boo” which aired on Sci-Fi Channel and was released by Ventura. Sheri has served as a Consulting Producer to Lance Entertainment and Brainstorm Media (Little Men, Bridge to Terebithia), as well as Kismet Entertainment Group (Asylum, Dog Soldiers).

    Her latest film, an outrageous comedy, “How To Make Love To a Woman” will be released on July 13th. The film stars Josh Meyers (that 70’s Show, Madtv), Krysten Ritter (27 Dresses, Confessions of a Shopaholic), Eugene Byrd (8 Mile), James Hong (Blade Runner, Big Trouble in Little China), and James Kyson Lee (Heroes).

  • Carmella Cardina has worked in film and video as writer, producer and director. Her production company, [chaosfilms, inc], produced the short film, “…the fan!” This quirky short has been screened at the 1998 IFFM, Kino Film Festival in Manchester, UK, Kent International Film Festival and the 1998 Spring FlixTour.

    Carmella won the ReelShort.com online film competition and was honored during the New Directors Short Film Showcase presented by ReelShort.com, the American Cinematheque and Universal Pictures.

    For her first feature, Carmella produced and directed the indie film, “The Tempest,” based on the play by William Shakespeare. Her short film, “Butterflies” screened at the Short Film Corner during the 2008 Cannes International Film Festival. Carmella’s latest short, “The Scrapbook” stars Kelly Carlin-McCall, daughter of George Carlin and is currently out to festivals.

  • [chaosfilms,inc] recently optioned the New York Times bestseller “Gone to Soldiers” by award author Marge Piercy for development as a potential mini-series. Also in development are several feature scripts which include “Smoke On”, with a possible partnership with Red Bull, and “On The Home Front”, a story of the families of our soldiers fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan.

  • Jeffrey Reddick got his start in the film industry by interning at New Line Cinema when he was 19. He parlayed that into a full time job and worked at the studio for over 11 years. While working at New Line, the studio bought his pitch for “Final Destination” and hired him to write the first draft. The film earned over $100 million at the worldwide box office.

    “Final Destination 2,” which Jeffrey co-wrote the story for, and executive produced, was released in 2003 and also crossed the $100 million mark worldwide. With the announcement that a fifth “Final Destination” is shooting in September 2010, Jeffrey is one of the few writers in Hollywood to create an enduring horror franchise.

    Jeffrey has sold, or optioned, over 15 projects for film and television. Currently, he has supernatural thriller, “Dead Awake,” set up at Gold Circle Films, urban horror film, “The Pool,” at Regent Entertainment and the supernatural TV series “Near Death,” which is being by Gale Anne Hurd’s Valhalla Motion Pictures and EI Entertainment. Previously, Jeffrey had an animated series in development at The Cartoon Network, and served as a consulting producer on the TV series, “Dante’s Cove.”

    Jeffrey is preparing to make his directorial debut with the supernatural thriller “The Final Reel,” which is based on a script he wrote.

  • Hollywood-resident Sean Decker (pictured above) cut his journalistic teeth as news editor and staff writer at Dungeon of Darkness (1996-1997) and Universal Studio’s Horroronline.com (1997-2001), where he worked alongside Fearwerx president Joe Sena and producer Tony Timpone, who is also a managing Fangoria editor.

    A contributing writer for such horror magazines as Famous Monsters of Filmland, 1313 Magazine and others, Sean received best fiction awards by the Horror Writer’s Association and Spookycon for various works of short fiction.

    Sean joined the Fangoria masthead in 2004 as the magazine’s west coast field correspondent, where he traveled the country from production to production with his coverage appearing in the pages of Fangoria magazine, as well as its online entity, Fangoria.com.

    His current journalistic assignments have found a new home with genre film website DreadCentral.com.

    “Alluvial”, the survival-horror screenplay he co-authored with writer Jack Ulrich, has once again been optioned and is currently in development with Firesign Films.

  • Born Richard L. Wilson, TheRichard is a film fanatic who spent the early years growing up in Kentucky. He created his first screenplay, ShadowLurkers, at age 15, followed by a 215 page novelization; sequel “Bloodshed:Shadowlurkers 2” at 16. He designed his first role-playing game around the same time which received honors at Morehead State University’s Game Convention.

    He joined the US Army at age 17 and moved to Hawaii, where he lived for 15 years.

    After the military, he worked for radio and advertising companies. For over 10 years, he ran his own company, Gemini’s Closet Productions, working in event coordination, planning, booking, and performing.

    In 1995 TheRichard began publishing Nymphs and Satyrs Magazine, focusing on art, music and film.

    Over the years, TheRichard has written and illustrated over 100 science fiction/ horror short stories. In 2003 he attended film school in London, England, focusing on screenwriting and film production.

    Presently TheRichard’s time is spent between writing and table-top board game designing. He is currently in talks with various filmmakers and studio executives to produce board and card games based on popular movie franchises.
