Virginia Madsen Next for Red Riding HoodOne more bit of casting news has come in for Catherine Hardwicke’s Red Riding Hood, which will be hitting theatres on March 11, 2011. A true cougar has joined the wolves! Er … sort of!

Variety reports that Virginia Madsen (The Haunting in Connecticut, Candyman) has joined the cast of Warner Bros.’ thriller Red Riding Hood as the mother of Amanda Seyfried’s character.

Red Riding Hood, written by David Johnson (Orphan) and starring Amanda Seyfried, Shiloh Fernandez, Max Irons, Michael Hogan, Julie Christie, Lukas Hass, and Gary Oldman, is a retelling of the old Red Riding Hood bedtime story that we can only hope comes sans any sparkling entities and/or underwearwolves. Oh, who are we kidding? We know that they will be there. Either way, we’ll be watching and hoping for the best.

The original fairy tales by The Brothers Grimm were deliciously dark so keep your fingers crossed that at least some of that content makes it in.
