Ridley Scott Talks 3D Alien Prequels
The debate about 3D filmmaking is a truly heated one. Do 2D to 3D conversions hurt the experience? Even if a film is shot in 3D, is the experience worth the extra four bucks at the box office? With Ridley Scott helming two prequels to the horror classic Alien, both of which are to be shot in 3D, the visionary director decided to chime in on the subject.
Ridley sat down for a really candid interview about the subject with Ain’t it Cool News to talk the ins and the outs of the process. His answers and opinions just may surprise you. There are a couple of excerpts below, but do yourself a favor and hit up the above link and read the whole enchilada.
“I’ve heard now that audiences object if it’s not purely 3D, if it’s 2D to 3D,” Scott tells the site. “I could show you 2D to 3D, and you wouldn’t know the difference. But when they’re told it’s 2D to 3D, they say, ‘Fuck that, man! I’m paying another four dollars…’ It’s about money, of course, but you’re still paying for the effect. Really, it’s very close. 2D to 3D is awfully close.”
Then for the love of all that is holy, Mr. Scott, explain to us what happened with Clash of the Titans!
