Hollywood has rifled through graphic novels, plundered through video games, and remade everything it could possibly think of. What’s next? BOARD GAMES! Roll the dice and get ready for the horror … the horror!

According to The Hollywood Reporter’s Heat Vision Blog John August is in negotiations with DreamWorks to write the studio’s feature film adaptation of Monsterpocalypse, a strategy game played with collectible miniature figures.

Tim Burton was originally announced to be “in talks” to helm the project, but DreamWorks has yet to hammer out a deal. If the planets align, this will be the fourth collaboration between August and Burton, following Big Fish, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and The Corpse Bride.

Let’s not forget that the duo also have a feature adaptation of the Sixties TV show “Dark Shadows” in development at Warner Bros. with Burton regular Johnny Depp attached as well. So many projects. So little time.

Monsterpocalypse was created by Matt Wilson, who will co-produce the movie, and involves game maps on which all manner of Japanese-inspired monsters, aliens, robots and insects do battle while laying waste to the cityscape, which changes for each game. Look for more soon!
