Frances Conroy Enters The Mist
Some pretty cool casting news has arrived for the television show based upon the Stephen King tale “The Mist.” THR is reporting that Emmy nominee Frances Conroy has been tapped to star in the scripted drama based on King’s 1980 book and subsequent feature film.
Spike’s “The Mist” — picked up straight-to-series with a 10-episode order — tells the harrowing story about a seemingly innocuous mist that seeps into a small town and creates immense havoc. “Six Feet Under” and “American Horror Story” alum Conroy will portray Nathalie, a modern-day ecological martyr. While she is seemingly more connected to nature than most people, her instincts about her fellow humans are dead on.
The drama hails from Dimension Television, with Christian Torpe (Denmark’s Rita) set as a writer and executive producer. The series will begin production in the summer for a 2017 debut. Dimension Exec VP Scripted Megan Spanjian will oversee the series alongside Exec VP Production and Creative Affairs Matthew Signer and Senior VP Production and Development Keith Levine. Spike Exec VP Originals Sharon Levy, Senior VP Scripted Original Series Ted Gold, and Senior Director Scripted Lauren Ruggiero will oversee for Spike. Bob Weinstein, Harvey Weinstein, and David Glasser will exec produce for The Weinstein Co./Dimension TV. Amanda Segel also exec produces, while Vlad Wolynetz is on board as a co-EP.
“The Mist” stands to be Spike’s first ongoing scripted series in years. The project was fast-tracked — picked up to pilot and then straight to series.
