Will You Want to Commit Suicide After Watching the Trailer for The Asylum’s Sinister Squad?

The summer of 2016 is looking to be the return of the full-fledged Asylum mockbuster. Seems The Asylum’s Independents’ Day was just the warm-up. Next up, fairy tale villains fill in for comic book supervillains in Sinister Squad. I wonder what movie this was inspired by?

A pseudo follow-up to his 2015 “The Avengers with fairy tale super-heroines” flick Avengers Grimm, writer-director Jeremy M. Inman’s Sinister Squad sees the world in grave danger from a supernatural force, and only an unlikely rogue’s gallery of fairy tale villains can save us from this evil.

Synopsis:
When a supernatural cult threatens Earth, Alice must assemble a team of fairy tale villains to face the literal forces of Death.

Leading the charge is Rumpelstiltskin (played by Johnny Rey Diaz), who is clearly patterned after Jared Leto’s Joker. Hopefully he didn’t send any of his co-stars dead rats or used condoms.

Other fairy tale anti-heroes rounded up by Alice and Goldilocks to round out the Sinister Squad include The Big Bad Wolf, Bluebeard, Carabosse, and Gelda. The Mad Hatter and the Pied Piper also figure into the action.

Christina Licciardi, Lindsay Sawyer, Trae Ireland, Joseph Michael Harris, Fiona Rene, and Talia A. Davis co-star.

Contrary to the punny headline of this article, the trailer for Suicide Squad probably won’t make you want to commit suicide. But will it make you want to watch Sinister Squad when it arrives on DVD/VOD July 5th?

If you think The Asylum is done with mockbusters for the summer, think again. Their Roman religious epic In the Name of Ben Hur releases August 2nd, a week before the big screen remake of Ben Hur races into theaters.
