Help Screamfest LA Give Back to the Indie Horror FilmmakerHere at Dread Central we pride ourselves on getting behind a good cause, and few are more precious to our hearts than keeping the horror community as strong as possible. We have a chance for you to help out, and it will only take a second for you to do your part!

The Pepsi Refresh Project is looking for a worthy cause to donate a $250,000 grant to. Screamfest LA is looking to win that grant and put the cash to good use within the horror film industry via job creation, educational seminars, and of course additional film screenings. If you’re unfamiliar with Screamfest LA and what it does, allow us to elaborate:

The Screamfest Horror Film Festival receives film submissions from around the country. Finalists are selected to have their works screened at the prestigious Grauman’s Mann Chinese Theatre 6 in Hollywood, CA. Writers and directors will meet with agents, film executives, and distributors during the 10-day event. If they receive the grant, they will also be able to create jobs by hiring four year-round staff members to work for this non-profit organization. Hiring these salaried staff members will benefit the community as local, state, and government taxes will be paid. In addition, educational seminars will be held on the artistry of special effects makeup, writing, film distribution.

Pretty important stuff considering all the doors the event has opened for indie filmmakers including Oren Peli from Paranormal Activity.

So what do they need? How can you help? To assist them in making this happen for aspiring horror filmmakers, just vote for the suggestion to do so here. There’s only one full day of voting left, and they’re in fifth place.

You guys can totally help make this happen! Let your voice be heard!
