As some of you might be able to guess, I have a soft spot in my heart for independent horror. I tend to cover it as often as I can in an effort to do my part to draw attention to new and upcoming talent in the genre.  On top of that, I have always had an inexplicable fascination with found footage. Despite the sub-genre’s tendency to get bashed by many, I have discovered some true gems out there that have captured everyday horrors in the most realistic sense so effectively that they are far elevated from their stigma of low-quality, DIY filmmaking to something much more.

On both fronts, the latest film on my radar is The Dooms Chapel Horror, a creepy story of tragedy and revenge starring Bill Oberst, Jr., one of the busiest actors in the genre today. The first feature-length horror effort from director John William Holt and writer Jason Turner, The Dooms Chapel Horror is being distributed by Brain Damage Films, a sub-division of Midnight Releasing, and will be available on DVD and through multiple VOD formats on June 14th — including Netflix, iTunes, and Amazon Video.

The film focuses on a man named Kyle Cole (Austin Madding) as he returns to a small town and faces a strange group with nefarious plans. Joining Oberst, Jr. and Madding are Joshua Mark Robinson, Shaun Gerardo, and Wendy Kneeling.

You can have a look at the film’s latest chilling poster and trailer below the synopsis.

Synopsis:
A horrific family tragedy. A town that lays blame. A boy who wants revenge. The Dooms Chapel Horror rises to unleash its terrible vengeance on the tight-knit Southern town of Kaler Mills. Blamed for the death of his celebrated older brother, young Kyle Cole is tormented by members of the community to the point of no return. A secret meeting at the compound of a mysterious and dangerous man named Jordan sets the fate of the town… only to be put on hold as Kyle’s parents, succumbing to their grief, abruptly send Kyle away to be raised by distant relatives.

Now, years later, Kyle is a young man on the verge of graduating from college. He is joined by his girlfriend Mandy and Tanner, a young documentary filmmaker, as he travels back to Kaler Mills to find peace with his mother and father and finally deal with the events that caused him so much sadness and anger as a boy. But his parents are not the only ones waiting for Kyle’s return.  The table is still set; and Jordan, his adopted son, Samuel, and the dark, ancient creation of Kyle’s vengeance have been waiting… and they are hungry…
