Oxenfree was a mighty fine game (we gave it a perfect score in our review) so the fact that it’s received a director’s cut with a ton of new content could not make us happier.

If you already purchased Oxenfree on Steam or Xbox One, then you’ll automatically receive the new content, and the game’s also now made its debut on PS4.

As the legendary Robert Kirkman is helping Oxenfree to become a multi-media series, it’s great to see that he respects the source material because as the video below shows, he clearly had a great time playing the game.

From the Press Release:
OXENFREE, the critically lauded supernatural adventure game and debut title from Night School Studio, arrives on the PlayStation 4 (PS4) in its most definitive version yet. The single player narrative-driven, coming-of-age tale launches on PS4, featuring a breadth of new content including alternate endings, new dialogue and locations in the New Game+ Mode. Adventurers that have already purchased OXENFREE for Xbox One or Steam will automatically receive the updated content. Special PlayStation 4 (PS4) launch month pricing is set for $14.99 for PlayStation Plus members (retail price is $19.99).

The OXENFREE New Game+ Mode serves as a dreamlike continuation of the story of Alex and her friends on a decommissioned military island, offering new endings, locations and extensions to the original story. After completing the story once, players may start the game again with new dialogue choices and a creeping sense of deja vu.

“We’re incredibly excited that PS4 owners now have the opportunity to explore and get lost in the world of OXENFREE for a ‘long time,’” remarked Sean Krankel, Co-Founder of Night School Studio. “The New Game+ Mode continues Alex’s incredible story to reveal so much more of the island’s surreal qualities. Players will be able to change the supernatural events of Edwards Island and our characters’ lives in a way they never imagined possible.”

An OXENFREE PS4 Dynamic Theme is also live in the PlayStation Store, which may be purchased alone or with the game. The theme showcases a dynamically evolving version of Edwards Island, syncing appropriate scenes from the game based on the real time of day.

As the debut title from Los Angeles based indie developer Night School Studio, OXENFREE became one of the first games of 2016 to capture the hearts and minds of critics and players alike this past January. The tale centers around a teenage girl named Alex, who brings her new step-brother Jonas to an overnight party on an abandoned military island gone horribly wrong. Fresh off of its win for Excellence in Visual Art at this year’s Independent Games Festival with honorable mentions in the grand Prize, Narrative and Audio categories, OXENFREE was praised as “the first must play game of 2016” by the LA Times while VICE hails it as “an indie gaming essential.”
