Guillermo del Toro’s Extraordinary Art Collection to be Showcased in Museums

I really wish that Guillermo del Toro would spend more time actually directing movies rather than producing or talking about movies that he wants to make (or more recently, signing on to direct movies that get shut down before entering production).
Well, at least now, the legendary filmmaker with a penchant for monsters has a new endeavor that will satisfy his millions of fans.
Since he was a kid, del Toro has been amassing a gigantic collection of books, art, and memorabilia, all related to fantasy and horror, which he keeps stashed at a house he owns in LA that he dubs Bleak House. By looking at the pictures of his magnificent collection below, I find myself wondering whether it really is possible to die of jealousy.
It’s not his full-time home, but he still visits regularly to be among his treasure trove. And some of that trove will now be visible to the public because the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) will be hosting an event featuring around 500 pieces of his collection from July 31 to November 27. Afterwards the exhibition will move to Minneapolis, Toronto, Mexico City, Barcelona, Paris, and New York.
I don’t live anywhere near any of those cities, but if you do, then you’d be crazy to miss seeing such beautiful pieces of art. The Tate Modern can take its modern expressionist art, or whatever the hell it calls it, and shove it. Seriously, don’t visit the Tate Modern; it’s boring and snobbish as hell, and if someone took a dump on their floor, they would probably call it a masterpiece of modern art. But definitely visit this exhibit if you can.
