Supernatural Season One Heading to the Wild Blu YonderIf you were one of the lucky ones who tuned in to the pilot episode of Supernatural when it first aired, then you knew right from the beginning that it was something special. Not every show plasters one of its seemingly major characters against a ceiling and lights her on fire. Now, thanks to Warner Home Video, you can see Mary Winchester in all her blazing glory again … in hi-def!

On June 15th Supernatural: The Complete First Season (review here) will be re-released on Blu-ray. Extras will include everything found in the original box set plus two additional features:

  • The Devil’s Road Map: Interactive Map Guide to Season One’s Urban Legends and Unusual Facts
  • Paley Festival Panel Discussion Featuring the Cast and Creators

The remaining supplements are commentary on “Pilot” by creator Eric Kripke, director David Nutter, and producer Peter Johnson; commentary on “Phantom Traveler” by Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles; “Supernatural: Tales from the Edge of Darkness” featurette; “Day in the Life of Jared and Jensen” featurette; gag reel; and unaired/deleted scenes. Ahhh, the good old days when Sam and Dean could be seen in the extras!

This now leaves only Season 2 languishing in low-def. Most certainly we’ll be getting news on its upgrade soon, too. In the meantime, here’s that iconic image of Mama Winchester in case you’re stuck thinking Supernatural is just about a couple of pretty boys. Believe me, things get ugly on this show … real ugly indeed.
