A feature film adaptation of Steve Alten’s Meg: A Novel of Deep Terror has been in the works for many years now, and so many directors have been attached that it’s hard to keep track. After Eli Roth recently dropped off the project, Jon Turteltaub stepped in, and today brings the first casting news.

Deadline reports that Jason Statham is in negotiations to star in the adaptation of Meg that Warner Bros is moving forward with in conjunction with China-based Gravity. If cast, Statham will do battle with a massive prehistoric shark, which sounds like music to our Statham-loving ears.
