Watch Short Film Code 8 Now; Contribute to the Feature Film Campaign

The short Code 8, which was produced as a proof of concept for a feature, has just been released online, and needless to say, it’s pretty damn awesome. And it stars one half of everyone’s favourite duo of superhero cousins, Robbie Amell, in the lead, with Stephen on board as producer. Both will be showing up in the feature.
Set in the semi-futuristic Lincoln City, which is clearly modeled on LA, it takes place in a world where a small percentage of the population are born with superpowers, but rather than being tasked with putting their abilities to good use, they’re treated as a shunned minority who are below the rest of society. Looks like Code 8 will attempt to tackle some pretty serious social issues, and we even see the all too common police tactic of shooting first and asking questions later in the short, so expect these themes to be offered on a much larger scale in the feature.
You can head over to Indiegogo now to help it get made, not that you need to. In only a day, it raised 93%, so whether you contribute or not, this is gonna reach its goal and then some.

The film takes place in a world where 4% of the population are born with some type of supernatural ability. Instead of being billionaire superheroes, most ‘specials’ live in poverty and resort to crime, forcing the police to become more militarized.
The story follows a young man with special powers (Amell) struggling to find work as a day laborer. After a dispute over payment, he finds himself in a confrontation with a police officer (Sung Kang) and the autonomous robots backing him up.
Shot in LA last summer, “Code 8” also stars Aaron Abrams (“Hannibal,” “Blindspot”), Chad Donella (“Scandal”), and Alfred Rubin Thompson (Club Dead).
Because of scheduling, Stephen Amell couldn’t be in the short but acted as executive producer and says he’ll be in the feature, “I had to jump straight from Turtles back to ‘Arrow,’” says Stephen, “but I’m going to do everything I can to HELP see this become a full length movie.”
We made this short to prove to our fans and to ourselves that we could do something amazing. We think it turned out pretty damn well, and now it’s time to hit the big leagues.
The short film is just an introduction to this world. We want to delve deeper! But we hate spoilers, so we won’t say too much about the story. We can say this: This movie will be intense, it will feel real, and you will see a side of Robbie and Stephen that you haven’t seen before. Oh, and there will be robots, superpowers, and a ton of badass action.
