You have to hand it to Japanese cinema. When it comes to craziness, they scream it as loudly as they can. The rather naughty trailer for their oddball superhero film HK/Hentai Kamen The Abnormal Crisis, the sequel to the 2013 film HK: Forbidden Super Hero, is testament to that.

Based on the strictly adults only manga by Keishū Ando, the series follows a socially awkward teenage boy named Kyōsuke who miraculously gains superpowers whenever he wears his sex worker mother’s underpants on his head. So yeah, Batman he ain’t.

The second film follows Kyōsuke (whose superhero name is Hentai Kamen, which translates as Ultimate!! Pervert Mask) as he investigates the sudden and mysterious disappearance of panties all around the world. Director Yûichi Fukuda and star Ryôhei Suzuki return, and it hits Japanese screens on May 14.

You know how people keep complaining about how Hollywood superhero films are now basically just the same thing over and over again, and how they are afraid to take risks? Well, Hollywood could sure learn a thing or two from Japanese cinema. Who cares if Batman and Superman will finally share the screen later this month, or if Spider-Man’s finally making his MCU debut in Civil War, or if the Avengers and the Guardians of the Galaxy team up in Infinity War? In HK/Hentai Kamen, we have a superhero who gets his powers by putting a sex worker’s underwear on his head. That’s all the awesome you’ll ever need right there.
