More Unofficial “Official” Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn News

Things are getting downright ridiculous in The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn land. First Deadline Hollywood reports that “it’s definitive. Filming on [two] back-to-back [Breaking Dawn] movies would begin in mid-October, and Summit Entertainment is looking at ‘high end’ directors.” But then MTV states Summit told them, “No decision has been made.” Further muddying the waters, The Hollywood Reporter chimes in with word that “the halls of Summit are also alive with the parallel potential of filming the last film — or films — in 3D.

So let’s break it down a bit, shall we? The Deadline Hollywood story seems credible enough as writer Nikki Finke claims the news came “from several sources”. Why, then, is Summit backpedaling via MTV? Probably because, as THR’s Risky Business Blog reminds us, Twilight author Stephenie Meyer’s “contract is chock full of approvals, over casting, director, screenwriter, etc. Presumably, any changes that include splitting the book’s narrative into two scripts or filming one or both in a new format have to be approved by her. (And beyond that, even if she approves a fifth film and 3D, the cast is only signed through four films, which should make for a very intense round of renegotiating.)”

Lastly, there are the fans to consider. The majority of them are opposed to 3D. But as we’ve seen with the previous installments, no matter what happens, they’re still going to turn out in droves in support of whatever format(s) Breaking Dawn eventually comes out in.

Which leaves us agreeing with THR’s prediction that Summit will “decide to go whole hog, or wolf, as it were: two films, in 3D, with much to gain and little to lose.” Keep it here in the coming days and weeks to see if we’re right!
