Let the Dark Matter DVD Club Awaken Your Imagination

Indie filmmaker Patrick Rea contacted Dread Central recently to let us know about Dark Matter, a new concept in monthly DVD clubs that focuses on a mixture of suspense, science fiction, and fantasy stories, often concluding with a thought-provoking, chilling, or unexpected turn of events.

Here’s how it works according to the Dark Matter website:

Essentially, DARK MATTER is a Twilight Zone-like anthology series delivered monthly to subscribers on DVD via mail. Don’t be fooled by the name, it’s not about darkness — it’s about the stories that have been hidden from our sight and the amazing possibilities they contain.

For $19.95 a month (plus shipping and handling), you receive a new DVD every month with 4-5 movies that have been hand-selected for people who appreciate compelling stories. The DVDs you receive from DARK MATTER are yours to keep forever. You never have to return anything, and you may cancel any time.

In most cases subscribers are receiving exclusive content no one else has access to. You just can’t find what DARK MATTER brings its subscribers anywhere else. Sometimes you’ll see familiar faces, sometimes brand new ones.

Think of DARK MATTER as your personal concierge, seeking out and delivering undiscovered stories from around the world worthy of your consideration.

This month’s volume, Reversals of Fortune, includes Rea’s short “Next Caller”, which stars Allan Kayser (Night of the Creeps) and Jennifer Friend (Bonnie and Clyde vs. Dracula). A late night radio DJ is doing a show on the supernatural. His skepticism is put to the test when he starts receiving strange phone calls.

Next month “Mrs. Brumett’s Garden” (written and directed by Rea, produced by Ryan Jones and Rea, and starring Shirley Wagner, T. Max Graham, Mark Ridgway with music by Harry Manfredini) will be part of the mix. An elderly woman believes she is talking to fairies in her garden. Her husband thinks she is crazy and plans on putting her in a home.
