Robert Eggers Has Zero Interest in Making a Witch Sequel

Writer/director Robert Eggers’ atmospheric outing The Witch ranks as one of the strongest horror flicks in recent memory. In this guy’s humble opinion, it practically begs for repeat viewings. And while some fans would love to see the filmmaker continue the story, Eggers recently revealed that he has zero interest in crafting a follow-up to the acclaimed movie.

During a recent chat with Entertainment Weekly, Eggers stated that turning The Witch into a franchise isn’t very high on his to-do list. In fact, he’s currently setting his sights on a miniseries surrounding the “mad monk” Rasputin. And if he has time, he’d like to give the classic vampire flick Nosferatu a fresh coat of cinematic paint. Wherever he goes, there I am.

Regarding The Witch 2, don’t expect that to happen anytime soon.

“I think I’m stealing the words from another director I cannot place, but if I wanted to know what happens after the last shot of the film, I would have made a longer movie,” Eggers told the folks at EW. In short: Stop holding your breath.

If you haven’t experienced The Witch on the big screen, do so before it ends its theatrical run. Otherwise, you could be kicking yourself later for letting it slip through your fingers. And if you haven’t watched the Black Phillip trailer for The Witch, give it a go. It probably makes more sense if you’ve seen the movie, but it’s still entertaining nonetheless.
