How You Can Help a Member of the Horror Community
Here at Dread Central we know that the horror community has a great big, bloody heart. So when we hear about a worthy cause, we like to let you know about it, too. Read on for more info on “The Boom Effect”.
Several months back I wrote Really Good Aural, an article about ten podcasts genre fans should check out. One of the ones I mentioned was Morevi: the Chronicles of Rafe and Askana, written and starring Tee Morris. Since then I’ve had some contact with Morris via Twitter, and aside from being a talented podcaster and genius of social media, he is a very funny and genuinely nice person. So it was with great sadness that I heard the news that, earlier this month, Tee, along with his five-year-old daughter (nicknamed Sonic Boom), lost their wife and mother very suddenly. The podcasting community came together and within days had helped raise money to cover the funeral costs… but they’re not stopping there.
Several of Tee’s friends have created The Boom Effect, an online auction that will be taking place at the end of February. According to their website the goal is to raise money toward Sonic Boom’s future: “She is only five now and relying on Tee to provide everything for her. We have the aim of providing a trust buffer for her, so that she can go to college if she wants. Nothing is going to replace her mother, but the funds raised will give more opportunities.”
There are some great items up for auction, including jewelry, services like manuscript reads from a professional agent, guest spots or characters on popular podcasts, a DVD of The Guild Season 1 signed by writer/star Felicia Day, and a signed copy of Brian Keene’s The Conqueror Worms donated by me, Lot #SB032. Plus much more. And they are still accepting cash donations as well.
This event will be a webathon run by Podcasting’s very own Rich Sigfrit with a plethora of special guests and fun. It will take place live online on February 28th, 2010. For more information, or to donate, check out The Boom Effect website and TeeMorris.com.
