*UPDATED* Next Halloween Project Bringing Myers to TV

Something weird is in the air, and we’re trying to get to the bottom of it. Fangoria is reporting some odd news regarding the next Halloween project starring everyone’s favorite boogeyman…

The site reports that they’ve “received word from a filmmaker who wished to remain anonymous that the newly available franchise [the Weinsteins lost the franchise rights a while back] may have skipped EFM in order to pursue a small screen alternative. While these reports are unconfirmed and should be taken with a grain of salt, our source says that the producers of the HALLOWEEN franchise have recently begun discussions with potential network representatives to bring Michael Myers to television. However, one shouldn’t expect HALLOWEEN to be the next WALKING DEAD: Our source has said the television reboot would be a “limited series event,” with the option being restricted to a 3- to 5-season commitment akin to Guillermo del Toro’s TV adaptation of THE STRAIN.

Again, file this one under rumor! For now, all we really know for sure is that sequel Halloween Returns, which was being developed by Dimension Films, is now completely off the table. Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan wrote the script, and Dunstan was set to direct. Whether or not they’d return for a small screen project is up for speculation.

Fango goes on to say that, according to their source, “these developments are fairly new in nature, and Trancas International Pictures is still fielding offers from production entities regarding bringing Halloween to the big screen.”

*UPDATE*
We’ve reached out to a few sources connected to the Halloween franchise, and the early word is that this is all nonsense. Still… anything can happen.
