Paranormal Activity Lands Independent Spirit Awards Nomination
Film Independent, the non-profit arts organization that produces the Independent Spirit Awards and the Los Angeles Film Festival, announced nominations this morning for the 25th Film Independent Spirit Awards, and we couldn’t be more pleased to announce that Paranormal Activity is the recipient of one of them. Congratulations to all parties involved!
Paranormal Activity garnered a nomination for “Best First Feature”, which is awarded to the winning film’s director and producers, in this case Oren Peli (director) and Jason Blum and Oren Peli (producers). Interestingly enough, ten years ago The Blair Witch Project (the film Paranormal Activity is most often compared to) was nominated for and won the same award.
The only other genre nomination this year appear to be Maria Bello’s for “Best Female Lead” in Downloading Nancy and Larry Fessenden’s “Piaget Producers Award” nod for the excellent I Sell the Dead and The House of the Devil.
Selected from 240 submissions, this year’s winners will be unveiled at a late-night celebration on Friday, March 5, 2010, at LA Live’s panoramic event deck in downtown Los Angeles. The 25th Film Independent Spirit Awards ceremony will air live and uncut on Friday, March 5, 2010, at 8:00 p.m. PST/11:00 p.m. EST on IFC (Independent Film Channel).
For the full nominee list and more info, be sure to visit the Spirit Awards’ official site or IFC.
Paranormal Activity hits DVD and Blu-ray on December 29th. Make sure you are following @TweetYourScream on Twitter and have joined the official Paranormal Activity Facebook fan page!
