It is with a great degree of sadness that we report actor and musical icon David Bowie has passed away at age 69 after an 18-month long battle with cancer.

Bowie touched the genre many times throughout the years, lending his music to nearly 500 projects including the recent miniseries “The Enfield Haunting,” “American Horror Story,” “Supernatural,” “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” the video game Alan Wake, and of course a myriad of feature films such as Chronicle, Cat People, Underworld, The Faculty, Lost Highway, Seven, and many MANY more.

The news broke via David Bowie’s official Facebook page and was later confirmed by his son, filmmaker Duncan Jones (Moon, Warcraft).

David Bowie died peacefully today surrounded by his family after a courageous 18-month battle with cancer. While many of you will share in this loss, we ask that you respect the family’s privacy during their time of grief.

In front of the camera Bowie starred in Tony Scott’s 1983 vampire film The Hunger, along with Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me, and most famously his portrayal of Jareth the Goblin King in 1986’s Labyrinth.

We here at Dread Central would like to take this time to honor the man who gave us so very much. We offer our deepest condolences to David’s friends, family, and constituents. Rest in peace, sir, and thank you from the very bottoms of our hearts.

David Bowie
