Paul Pope’s acclaimed graphic novel Battling Boy was primed and ready for a feature film adaptation way back in 2009, and Watchmen scribe Alex Tse was attached to pen the script. Of course, that iteration of the project never came to be, but today brings news of its re-animation.

Per Deadline, actor/writer/producer Jason Mantzoukas (“The League,” “Childrens Hospital”)  is set to write Battling Boy at Paramount, with Brad Pitt’s company Plan B producing. The live-action/animated hybrid project will be directed by Patrick Osborne.

Battling Boy is set in the city of Arcopolis, where monsters roam the streets and swallow children into the underworld. Into this world come two young protagonists — one a 12-year-old demi-god, the other the daughter of a highflying hero who has tragically died in battle — as their paths cross as they battle to save the city.

The film is reportedly being fast-tracked by Paramount.
