So you’ve bitten the bullet and purchased a Blu-ray player, but now you’re left with some of your favorite movies on DVD and can’t really afford to buy new copies of all of them. Warner Home Video feels your pain and has set up a special website where you can upgrade up to 25 of your discs for $7.95 or $9.95 per exchange with free shipping on orders of more than $25.00.

Warner Announces DVD to Blu-Ray Trade-In Program

Here are the details: Visit DVD2Blu.com and look through their list of 55 films (with more to be added in the coming months). You’ll print out a pre-paid postage label, mail in your DVDs (without the cases), and then receive your Blu-rays (complete with the typical case, cover art, bonus materials, etc.) a few weeks later. The genre titles that are currently part of the offer include Beetlejuice, Constantine, Dark City, Final Destination, The Lost Boys, The Orphanage, Pan’s Labyrinth, and The Shining (if you get nothing else, this is a must-buy!).

According to the story in Home Media Magazine, the DVDs sent to Warner will be destroyed. “DVD2Blu is a great way for consumers to start or expand their Blu-ray Disc collection,” said Dorinda Marticorena, Warner Home Video SVP of worldwide marketing and high definition. “We’re launching the program with a wide range of titles that will appeal to a broad audience.”

This is a pretty great idea — hopefully some of the other distributors will jump on the bandwagon, too.
