AFM 2015: XLrator Inherits The Curse of Sleeping Beauty

The classic Brothers Grimm tale gets a dark twist in Pearry Teo’s The Curse of Sleeping Beauty, and we’ve just gotten word out of this year’s American Film Market that XLrator Media has acquired U.S. distribution rights to the fantasy thriller. They will release it sometime in 2016.

XLrator Media (Jimi: All Is By My Side, The Machine) has acquired U.S. distribution rights to the fantasy thriller THE CURSE OF SLEEPING BEAUTY from Bleiberg Entertainment for release in 2016. The two companies will develop and co-produce an episodic series based on the film and acclaimed artist Everette Hartsoe (“Razor”) has created a graphic novel to tie in with the release of the film.
Bleiberg Entertainment and Red Granite International subsidiary Blue Box International are representing the international sales rights at the American Film Market.
THE CURSE OF SLEEPING BEAUTY stars Ethan Peck (Eden), the grandson of Gregory Peck, India Eisley (Underworld: Awakening, “The Secret Life of the American Teenager”), Natalie Hall (“True Blood”) and Academy Award®-nominee Bruce Davison (X-Men). The film was produced by Ehud Bleiberg (The Iceman) and Pearry Teo (Cloud Atlas). Teo directed from a screenplay he wrote with Josh Nadler, inspired by characters from the Brothers Grimm tale.
“With its iconic characters and dazzling visual world, the film is a bold and dark new take on the classic Sleeping Beauty story and lends itself to creating other rich storylines for an episodic fantasy adventure series,” said XLrator Media CEO Barry Gordon.
Synopsis:
Thomas Kaiser inherits an ancestral mansion that has been in his family for generations — only to learn that he has also inherited an ancient curse stemming back to the Crusades. Forced into his new role as “protector” — the guardian appointed to keep the evil demons in the house at bay — Thomas teams with an ambitious local realtor and paranormal cleric to unravel the mystery of the house while struggling to awaken the beautiful Briar Rose, held captive in a terrifying netherworld seen previously in his dreams.
