DVD and Blu-ray Releases: November 3, 2015
I hope that everyone had a happy Halloween and is now looking forward to the consumer crush that will be the next two months or so. We’ve got a smaller list this week at 16 releases, but there should be something here for all of you.
First off, Stephen King’s A Good Marriage made the list for its Blu-ray release on October 20th, but it appears that it may have been pushed back to today. Either way you should be able to find it somewhere. Second, while Some Kind of Hate is coming out this week on DVD, you can pick up the Blu-ray release on December 29th.
While every release is pretty much a recent flick, our classics consists of 1973’s Tenderness of the Wolves and the Stanley Kubrick Collection.
Fans of the wacky antics of Steve Guttenberg will be pleased to see him in Lavalantula. I back Mahoney.
One movie I’m definitely interested in seeing is The Final Girls, featuring Nina Dobrev of TV’s “The Vampire Diaries” and Taissa Farmiga of “American Horror Story” fame. It looks like a good horror-comedy with a pretty decent plot.
Pleasant viewing, fiends. Four-day weekends are upon us…

Bloodsucking Bastards (2015)
Starring:
Fran Kranz, Pedro Pascal, Joel Murray
Synopsis:
An Office Space meets Shaun of the Dead action-packed horror comedy, Bloodsucking Bastards stars Fran Kranz as Evan Sanders, a low-level, dutiful employee stuck in a boring job at a soul-killing every corporation. Evan’s the kind of guy who does all the work and gets none of the credit, but at least he gets to spend his days with his beautiful co-worker/girlfriend Amanda and his slacker best friend Tim, so he soldiers on in the hope of one day getting his coveted sales director position.
Unfortunately, it all falls apart in one fell swoop when Amanda breaks up with him and Evan’s boss Ted hands his promotion to his college nemesis Max . And it isn’t just their sordid past Evan has to deal with. After his fellow officemates start going through disturbing changes (which, paradoxically, make them better employees) and bodies begin to pile up, Evan learns the horrible truth: Max is a vampire. And even worse… a vamp with a plan.
Bloodsucking Bastards takes audiences on a hilarious, blood-spattered roller coaster ride in the most terrifying locale of all: the American workplace. Evan must find a way to stop the evil brewing amidst the cubicles, expose Max as the bloodsucking bastard that he is, win back Amanda, and save his pals before his life and career go from dead-end… to just dead.

Tenderness Of The Wolves (1973)
Starring:
Kurt Raab, Jeff Roden, Margit Christensen, Ingrid Craven, Rainer Werner Fassbinder
Synopsis:
Fritz Haarmann, aka the Butcher of Hanover and the Vampire of Hanover, was a German serial killer responsible for the murders of two dozen boys and young men during the so-called years of crisis between the wars. His case would partly inspire Fritz Lang s M, and its central character portrayed by Peter Lorre, as well as this forgotten gem from 1973.
Tenderness of the Wolves treats the viewer to a few weeks in the company of a killer. Baby-faced and shaven-headed, in a manner that recalls both M and F.W. Murnau s Nosferatu, Haarmann is a fascinating, repulsive figure. Using his status as a police informant to procure his victims, he dismembers their bodies after death and sells the flesh to restaurants, dumping the remainder out of sight. This isn’t an easy film to watch, but it certainly gets under the skin…
Produced by Rainer Werner Fassbinder (who also supplies a shifty cameo), Tenderness of the Wolves provided two of his regular actors with a means of expanding their careers. Ulli Lommel later responsible for the infamous video nasty The Boogeyman made his directorial debut, while Kurt Raab wrote the screenplay as well as delivering an astonishing performance as Haarmann.
