Dan Aykroyd Digs the New Ghostbusters

I don’t know about you guys, but I personally cannot wait for Paul Feig’s Ghostbusters or ANY other Ghostbusters project to be out and done. If only to stop all of the incessant internet babbling.

Recently Entertainment Weekly caught up with original franchise star Dan Aykroyd to find out his take on the upcoming reboot.

In a way, his movie might be a little better than the first two because they can do more — CGI might be a little better. But also, you know, there might be more jokes in it. I’m really happy with what I’m seeing. Paul’s idea of the gender shift was a very smart and fresh way to get everybody to re-look at this in a new way. None of us lobbied to be in the third movie. We all felt that this Paul Feig concept was so strong that we didn’t have to be in it. But he called me. And of course, I said, ‘I want to help in any way I can.’

In the Paul Feig-directed Ghostbusters, Melissa McCarthy is Abby Yates, Kristen Wiig is Erin Gilbert, Leslie Jones is Patty Tolan, and Kate McKinnon is Jillian Holtzmann. Chris Hemsworth co-stars, and also making appearances will be Dan Aykroyd, Sigourney Weaver, Bill Murray, Ernie Hudson, and Annie Potts.

Wiig and McCarthy play a pair of unheralded authors who write a book positing that ghosts are real. Flash-forward a few years and Wiig lands a prestigious teaching position at Columbia U. Which is pretty sweet, until her book resurfaces and she is laughed out of academia. Wiig reunites with McCarthy and the other two proton pack-packing phantom wranglers, and she gets some sweet revenge when ghosts invade Manhattan and she and her team have to save the world.

The Ghostbusters reboot will haunt the big screen on July 15, 2016.
