Mattel’s Monster High line, which exploded onto the scene in 2010, is one of the coolest original toy lines to come along in many years, comprised of the teenage daughters of iconic monsters like Frankenstein, Dracula, and The Wolf Man. I’m a 29-year-old dude, but I kind of love the dolls.

As reported by Deadline, Universal Pictures is developing a live-action adaptation of the toy line, which they hope will lead to a full-blown Monster High movie franchise. Oscar-winning filmmaker Ari Sandel (The Duff) has been hired to direct the first film in the potential franchise.

Monster High is where the children of famous monsters go to school and come of age. The script was written by Stephanie Savage and Josh Schwartz, and the film is being produced by those two through their Fake Empire banner with Storyline’s Craig Zadan and Neil Meron.

Playground Productions is exec producing.
