Catherine Hardwicke Eying The Girl with the Red Riding Hood
Catherine Hardwicke may be moving up from the boyish werewolves of Twilight to the Big Bad Wolf himself if things work out in her negotiations with Warners to direct The Girl with the Red Riding Hood for Leonardo DiCaprio’s Appian Way production company.
As we reported previously, Orphan screenwriter David Leslie Johnson is developing a Gothic reimagining of the classic Grimm Bros. tale, and THR’s Risky Biz Blog made the Hardwicke connection today.
They also said the project is a priority for the studio, and despite her so-called falling out with Summit after all was said and done with Twilight, Hardwicke is fielding a few other offers as well as already being tapped to helm the modern-day adaptation of Hamlet with Emile Hirsch. Depending on the timing, the indecisive Dane could take precedence, so don’t be surprised if down the road we hear of another director taking over for her on The Girl with the Red Riding Hood.
