USA Greenlights 2-Hour The Wilding Pilot Directed by Ciaran Foy

People are saying nowadays there’s “too much” TV to choose from… and horror shows are certainly leading the pack with an abundance of choices on the air now and arriving shortly. But that’s not stopping USA Network and Universal Cable Productions from greenlighting a two-hour backdoor pilot for “The Wilding.”  Given the director attached, we think it’ll be of interest.

The series would be another “supernatural drama,” this time hailing from executive producers Tim Kring (“Heroes”) and writer/creator Silka Luisa (To the Bone). Ciarán Foy (Citadel, Sinister 2) is set to direct.

Per Deadline, “The Wilding” also could go straight to series at any point during production on the pilot.

The site explains that the project, whose pickup had been in the works for a while with casting already under way, is part of a broader initiative at UCP and the NBCUniversal cable networks it supplies, including USA and Syfy, to jump-start a greater volume of quality series at a lower license fee to the networks through a model that involves UCP supplementing the high-end budget for the shows through financing via collaborations with international networks and SVOD deals. The first project under that initiative was the Syfy/UCP straight-to-series drama series “Hunters,” executive produced by Gale Anne Hurd. The new model involves mostly going straight to series with orders for 8, 10, or 13 episodes.

But back to “The Wilding”… Across North Carolina, disparate people realize they’re connected by the same haunting. Their only hope is a fractured family battling the repercussions of a teenage pregnancy, addiction, and the discovery that they belong to a subset of people with supersensory abilities, Wildings.

Luisa wrote the script and will executive produce with Imperative Entertainment’s Kring and Justin Levy (“Super Girl”) as well as Brian Kavanaugh-Jones (Insidious) and Bailey Conway (Insidious 2 and 3). The pilot is set to film in Vancouver.

Lots of heavy hitters on this one, so we’ll keep you posted on casting, etc.
