After the announcement that You’re Next director Adam Wingard would helm the American Death Note movie, we now have confirmation that none other that Nat Wolff, from Paper Towns and The Fault in Our Stars, will play the lead role of the character Light, courtesy of Variety.

Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata’s 30+ million selling manga series follows a teenager called Light who comes into possession of mythical notebooks known as the Death Notes, which can cause whoever has their name written in them to die, created by demons known as the Shinigami or “Death Gods,” and the efforts of the eccentric detective L to stop him from cleansing the world.

It will be interesting to see Wolff play such a villainous character as it will be so vastly different from everything that we’ve seen from him so far. And he’s in good hands, as the script was provided by Jeremy Slater, who was also responsible for writing such great movies as, eh, this year’s Fantastic Four. But he did later state that his script bore little resemble to the final product, so let’s give the guy a break and hope that he does a good job.

Death Note is expected to start shooting next spring. In the meantime, there’s also another Japanese film adaptation in development.
