With fall having officially begun this past September 23rd, thoughts are turning to what books are out now or coming out soon that fit the chill in the air and invite us to curl up with them to escape into a different reality for a while. A popular topic is, of course, the undead; and a trio of zombie-themed novels recently crossed our path so we thought we’d put them into a “spotlight” series running throughout the week to help kick off the Halloween season.
First up is M.F. Wahl’s debut novel, Disease, which brings us into a world where zombies seem friendly compared to the demons that can live inside a survivor’s mind. Wahl tells us, “I’ve always felt that all the good zombie stories were really about people. Horror and gore is a must for any great zombie novel, but true darkness is bedfellow to the living.”
Amen, M.F., amen.
You’ll find Disease‘s synopsis, trailer, and cover art below; be sure to check back on Wednesday for our second spotlight book, penned by soldier-turned-author Shawn M. Scott.
Humanity’s war against the living dead has been lost. In the wake of the apocalypse, the living fight fiercely for what little they have.
In this hell on earth, Casey, armed with a baseball bat and joined by a mute boy named Alex, struggles to survive. When a man named Danny stumbles upon them, it’s mistrust at first sight – but times are desperate. Danny leads them to a thriving settlement where danger lurks beneath the guise of kindness.
It’s kill or be killed in a world where power is life, and the earth is overrun by walking dead.
