The new film Dollface is a fun horror-comedy that features the incomparable Debbie Rochon in the role of a rowdy, trailer-dwelling character named Betsy. Recently the lovely Ms. Rochon sat down with Dread Central to talk about the film.

As Rochon has worked on nearly 250 productions, we think it’s pretty safe to call her an expert on the business. She started by discussing what made working on Dollface a unique experience. “Dollface brought me back to a time when you just had a blast making a movie,” Rochon said. “No stress on set, everyone just there for the good of the movie, fun characters. It was an extremely refreshing experience, to be honest! Loved playing a filthy-mouthed trailer-trash broad, so much fun.”

Rochon went on to give us a little more detail about her character. “Betsy will pretty much do anything to either fight or… well… have sex, let’s say,” Rochon said. “She is a cougar but not a nicely-dressed, preppy, corporate one. She’s the type of cougar that comes straight from the mountains, like the real deal does. She was damn fun to play. There really wasn’t anything she wouldn’t say to anyone, and that was a complete riot! What a blast.”

Moving on from Betsy, Rochon discussed working with Dollface director Tommy Faircloth. “I love Tommy,” Rochon said. “He contacted me because I guess he remembered I had worked on a couple other films with him – Hellblock 13 and Head Cheerleader, Dead Cheerleader – so he took a chance and contacted me out of the blue all these years later. I was flattered that he remembered working with me, but I was really flattered that he offered me such a fun part! I love Tommy’s directing style, too… easy-going, laid back, but right there for you. If there was anything you needed as an actor, he would assist you because he had the same goal–to make the best movie possible. Plus, he has acted in front of the camera so he knows very well what it’s like. He’s also a terrific DP.”

Dollface is a sequel to Faircloth’s film Crinoline Head. In the new film the killer, Dorchester Stewart, is played by huge actor Big John Kap. Rochon spoke about working with him. “He was a complete sweetheart to work with,” Rochon said. “He was kind, hardworking, never complained about the heat or anything. He was concentrated and knows how big he is so he would always run through the stunts as many times as you wanted until you felt comfortable. He was as gentle as a kitten but intimidating to look at! Great guy! He takes his film work very seriously.

Rochon is an extremely versatile actress who can be seen in all styles of horror films. Sometimes they are intense, and other times they are more horror-comedy, as we see in Dollface. She spoke about working in the different sub-genres of horror. “I love intense roles, but I love offbeat humor too,” Rochon said. “Anything that elicits a response from the audience, whether it’s, ‘You were bizarre and scary’ or ‘You were hilarious,’ both are pretty big compliments for sure. I think working on extreme material can be more exhausting, in a good way, because you have so much more to work on with the layers of the character. With broad comedy you still have layers, but it’s more about not editing yourself and committing 1000% to the ridiculousness and plunging in head first!”

Rochon concluded by talking about what’s coming up in the near future for her. “Once Dollface comes out, and I think everyone will have a great time seeing this movie, I will have a few more film festival screenings of Model Hunger, my directorial debut, before it hits DVD/VOD in March/April 2016!”

Dollface was released on September 15. Check out Debbie Rochon and the insanity of Dollface on DVD or VOD now!
