Season 2 of Syfy’s “Z Nation” kicked off last night with a rousing premiere, and next week’s Episode 2.02, “White Light,” looks to continue amping things up for our survivors, one of whom might not live to see another day.  But before we get to that, we have some guest casting news to share that we honestly didn’t think was true when we first heard it.

Per EW, George R.R. Martin, author of the Game of Thrones novels, will have a cameo in “Z Nation” Episode 2.08, playing himself as a zombie. The storyline is that Martin has been imprisoned by a character called “The Collector,” who captures celebrity zombies, and he keeps George chained to a desk for his own nefarious purposes.

In the below photos Martin is shown signing his book A Promise of Spring, a play on A Dream of Spring — the expected title of the eventual seventh (and presumably last) novel in his epic A Song of Ice and Fire saga. Currently Martin is working on Book 6, The Winds of Winter.

Martin, who also appeared in Syfy’s Sharknado 3 and was featured in CBS’s 1980’s version of “Beauty and the Beast” (where he worked as a writer), explained his appearance as one of the undead:  “I just want to prove to my fans that even in the zombie apocalypse, the Song of Ice and Fire books will still come out!”
